We are hosting a three-part series focused on the who, what, where and how of nature-based solutions in the lead up to UNFCCC COP25.
This webinar will focus on nature-based solutions in the context of Latin America, with representatives from the IUCN in the Mexico, Central America, and Caribbean Region, and the South America Region. A researcher from the University of Sydney will also be joining, with a focus on community-led ecosystem restoration in Brazil. They will present on integrating NBS into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) using case studies, and discuss how we can all keep the NBS momentum going.

Julio Montes de Oca | Thematic Expert, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean Region, IUCN
Julio Montes de Oca is a Thematic Expert on water and climate change at the IUCN Regional Office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, where he supports the development and implementation of projects related to integrated water resource management, governance of transboundary basins, wetlands conservation and ecosystem based adaptation. He holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (U.S.A) and a Master´s in Human Ecology from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium).
Karen Podvin | Programme Officer, South America Region, IUCN
Karen Podvin is an ecologist, specialized in climate change and with an MSc in forest and nature conservation from Wageninen University. Since 2013, she works as programme officer in the Regional Office for South America of IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature), coordinating initiatives related to Nature-based Solutions throughout the region, including Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction projects, and others related to forests and climate change.
Danilo Ignacio de Urzedo | Ph.D. Candidate, University of Sydney and Youth4Nature Storyteller representing Brazil
Danilo is an environmental geographer with experience in tropical land use and ecosystem restoration aligned to local livelihoods. A forest engineer by training, he holds an MSc in forest conservation and work experience with community forestry in the Brazilian Amazon within indigenous peoples and rural communities. Currently, he is completing his PhD in Environmental Geography at the University of Sydney on the topic of Amazon landscape restoration.
