about Youth4Nature

In pursuing climate action, political leaders cannot forget young people and they cannot forget nature. We are empowering young people around the world to mobilize for nature and climate and hold our political leaders to account on both the climate and ecological crises.

knowledge-sharing

We bring together scientists and youth to increase the knowledge base of around natural climate solutions.

Storytelling

We provide a platform for youth from all corners of the world to tell their stories about natural climate solutions and have their voices be heard.

Capacity-Building

We will mobilize on-the-ground at the United Nations Secretary General's Climate Action Summit in New York, engaging with decision makers and building a youth movement advocating for nature as a climate solution.

storymap

An online, multimedia story-map will share narratives from young people from around the world, telling the personal stories of youth and their connections to natural climate solutions. Through video, photos, audio, and text, this tool will raise the voices of youth and provide a platform for them to be heard.

marina melanidis

project lead, canada
Marina is a climate actor and youth mobilizer. She co-founded and codirects Climate Guides, a youth-led non-profit that supports youth engagement in climate action. She holds a BSc in Natural Resources Conservation and has experience in climate-conservation initiatives in Canada, India, and the Arctic. She is passionate about nature-based solutions and how they can link climate and biodiversity narratives.

EMILY B. N'DOMBAXE DOLA

Campaign Assistant, UK
Emily is a Campaign Assistant for Youth4Nature, acting as the Regional Coordinator Lead and as the core liaison between Nature4Climate, Climate Guides and the UNSG team. A BA International Development finalist at the University of Sussex, and with a variety of experience in civil society organisations and multi-sectoral projects, she is particularly interested in climate justice and political ecology. She is based at The Nature Conservancy's office in London.

Emma Thornton

Coordination Associate, USA
Emma Thornton is a Coordination Associate for the Youth4Nature Project Coordination Team and a Co-founder of the UNFCCC Ecological Conservation Working Group. She is a recent graduate of Northeastern University with expertise in sustainability and environmental justice, shaped by experiences with Environment America, Oxfam, J-PAL, Ceres, and NEJRC. When not researching climate solutions, Emma can be found walking dogs through Boston parks.

Caroline Merner

Coordination Associate, Canada
Caroline is a passionate climate action engager. Caroline is the Co-Director of Climate Guides and works at Environment and Climate Change Canada. She has worked to engage youth in conservation and climate change with Ocean Wise, Parks Canada, Dalhousie Student Union, Canadian Committee for IUCN and Canadian Commission for UNESCO. Caroline bikes everywhere, usually by the ocean.

Paul Mutuku

Kenya. African Region
Paul is an environment enthusiast based in Kenya, passionate about environmental communications and meaningful youth inclusion in conservation. He previously served as a communications and programs lead for 350.org Kenya and AYICCkenya, an environmental educator at A Rocha Kenya, and as the Founder/writer at Green Treasures Farms.

Zuhaib Shah

India, Asia-Pacific Region
Zuhaib is a post-graduate student at the Forest Research Institute, India. With an extensive background in Forestry, he has a strong passion for forest and environmental education and for sustainable development. Zuhaib is currently the head of social media with IFSA and has skills in communications, outreach, and information management.

Iryna Galiuk

Ukraine, Eastern European Region
A geographer and climate activist from Ukraine, Lryna has been involved in the climate movement since 2012. She has been a project manager, and lately head of the board, for the Ukrainian Youth Climate Association. Currently, she is working in Sustainable tourism in South America, contributing to environmental initiatives remotely.

Vanica Olmos Lau

Mexico, Latin America & Caribbean Region
Vania is working with Pronatura Mexico, an NGO based in Mexico City, on ecosystem-based adaptation strategies with communities in the Valley of Mexico basin. She is a biologist with a double MSc in Agroecology and Organic Agriculture. Vania servers on the Youth in Landscapes Steering Committee and on IUCN's Commission on Ecosystem Management and Young Professionals Network.

Sebastien Willemart

Belgium, Western Europe & Others Region
Backed by experiences with the UN and EU, S├ębastien has strengthened WFF advocacy strategies, contributed to the UN World Water Development Report, and drafted recommendations to the European Parliament and the Commission. His dedication to environmental protection led him to participate in the World Water Forum, COP 21, COP 23, COP 24.
