Nature-based Solutions - biodiversity's vital role in building resilience and enabling mitigation

When: December 10 @ 16:45 - 18:15 GST
Where: SE Room 4, Blue Zone, COP28

Through a holistic lens of society, science, and effective implementation, this event will explore the opportunities Nature-based Solutions present as adaptation and mitigation multipliers by highlighting the practical experience of NbS innovators, implementers, and impactful partnership models. The session will also delve into what best practice looks like for the development and implementation of biodiversity positive Nature-based Solutions both in policy and in practice, taking into account the vital need for rights-based approaches.

The event will bring together a global interdisciplinary panel with expertise spanning science, policy, civil society engagement and much more. It will platform case studies and discussion on the implementation of NbS that can bring benefits for adaptation, mitigation, local communities and biodiversity.

The panel will discuss how the mobilisation of best practice for NbS can be enabled and what is needed across a range of regions and geographies. We will also look ahead to the 3 Rio Convention COP’s taking place in 2024 - with the UNFCCC, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), all meeting in 2024, and the vital role nature plays in the achievement of goals across all three conventions.
