In solidarity For aCTION
Youth4Nature at COP29
From 11 November to 22 November 2024, the Youth4Nature team will participate in the 29th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. Under the theme “In Solidarity for a Green World”, this COP is happening on the heels of UNCBD COP16, and also during the hottest year on record, alongside headlines and science that says we have surpassed the possibility of meeting 1.5C targets. So we ask ourselves: who is in solidarity with who?
Here at Youth4Nature, the answer is clear. We are in solidarity with local leaders driving implementation on the ground, when international decision-makers are not keeping up. We are in solidarity with nature, a crucial and interconnected piece of this puzzle without which we cannot move forward. We are in solidarity with youth, demanding urgent action and the resources - especially finances - to back up the actions and solutions they are already leading. And, we are in solidarity with all those championing justice-focused and rights-based approaches in decision-making, in implementation, and in every step in between.
As we pass targets and deadlines, we must make sure no one is left behind. We must not lose hope. We must take care of each other along the way. Connect with us on-ground and follow our work online.
