Let's not lose more than we stand to gain. Deforestation is causing extensive loss of our biodiversity, hunger and extreme poverty due to compromised rainfall patterns when trees that act as rainfall catchments in tropical forests are constantly cut down for commercial reasons. A bleak future awaits a generation which will not put in place accurate measures to denounce deforestation.
The Thirsty Fisherman
This is a story of a naturally endowed region of Nigeria, a state likened to a proverbial food basket in which the carrier is starving. It is a short submission of how human activities have through cultural practices inflicted harm on the natural environment (biodiversity). Included in this story is the need to reverse the negative trends and review steps towards achieving sustainable and harmless biodiversity.
Nature, Food System and Ecosystem
I have been teaching in one of the most marginalized, poor, and economically deprived communities in Dhading district of Nepal. Around 65 % of the population consists of extremely poor and backward communities of Chepang, Magar, Gurung, and Tamang ethnic groups. I worked in the community to promote cultural diversity. I taught secondary level kids of the communities and provide them several exposure and opportunities. I engaged the kids and their guardians in tree plantation, commercialization of farms, income generation and other economic activities.
