ℹ️ This forum aims to disseminate crucial insights on Disaster Risk Reduction, highlighting the 2024 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) theme.

Risks, Vulnerability, & Resilience all seem familiar terms but are they really? Why is it that most of us live on the frontline of disasters yet are often oblivious to reducing risks and vulnerabilities associated with the disasters?

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR), observed annually on October 13th, aims to raise awareness about disaster risk reduction and encourage efforts to mitigate risks and build resilience in communities worldwide. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989, following a call for a day to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction. The day serves to highlight the importance of reducing vulnerability to disasters and promoting a proactive approach to managing risks, ultimately saving lives and minimizing economic losses caused by disasters.

🌟 Major Outcome? We will be mapping organizations and individuals pledging to support/host in-person IDDRR events during the week of October 13th.
